WELS Special Ministries currently serves people and congregations in 8 areas of special need: Mental health, visual impairment and blindness, deafness and hardness of hearing, civilian chaplaincy to military personnel, care of called workers, health and wellness (hospital, nursing home, ministry to aging, Parish Nursing, etc.), prison and jail ministry and sspecial education
Committees made up of lay and called-worker volunteers address the needs of individuals and congregations by means of personal consultations, informational and training workshops, printed and audio-visual materials. In some areas, full-time workers serve in face-to-face ministry, e.g., civilian chaplaincy in Europe and prison ministry.
