You have questioned something that Christian families have been wondering about ever since the Harry Potter series came out. They are popular books for a reason. They are entertaining and interesting to read. They have likeable characters and the age old struggle between good and evil. And what kid doesn't think about having magical powers? It is an appealing series to read with a very creative author. I really enjoyed reading them.

It is smart to be cautious about reading books like Harry Potter. I don't think it's for young readers. I would not say it's evil or wrong to read them, but you must do so with the right frame of mind and remembering and reminding yourself constantly that it is merely a story. You can't let yourself get caught up with fascination with all that magic and the powers the wizards, good and bad, have. Anytime we watch movies, read books, or listen to music that talk about the "powers of darkness", we must be cautious. Satan can and does use tools such as innocent entertainment to pull us in. In some ways, seeing the evil in the Harry Potter books could really demonstrate for you how evil and powerful Satan is. And it's scary stuff. Parents are in the right for not wanting their children to be exposed to that.

So...bottom line....it's not wrong to read them. But you must be mature enough to handle it. And be thankful that we have a God who is powerful enough to defeat the real Satan and all his powers of darkness!
