The ministry of The Lutheran Home Association began in 1898 in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, as a home for orphans and the elderly. Today, we are a not-for-profit Christian ministry serving individuals in Minnesota and Wisconsin. More than 200 churches from the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) from around the nation make up our association.
We serve people with unique health needs. Those we serve are the elderly and people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We also serve people with developmental disabilities and various types of mental illnesses. We maintain a system of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, senior apartments, a group home and various support services.
Our ministry, Jesus Cares Ministries, provides Christian support, education, worship, and fellowship programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and communities through a system of trained volunteers.
Our Resources and Education Office continues providing critical new materials and support needed and sought by Jesus Cares Ministries programs to serve people with developmental disabilities.
We believe that spiritual care is a primary component in any care plan. Therefore, we have full-time chaplains at our larger facilities and regular chaplaincy programs sponsored by our association churches at our smaller homes.
