Taiwan, the Republic of China, and our WELS mission work among the Chinese people.
The Taiwan population is just over 23 million people. The official language of Taiwan is Mandarin Chinese. The traditional religion on Taiwan is a mix of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. But the greatest barrier to the gospel of Jesus Christ is ancestor worship. The Christian Church body in Taiwan that the WELS cooperates with is called the CLEC, the Christian Lutheran Evangelical Church. There are 4 churches in the CLEC with a total membership of 150 souls. Through the powerful and active word of God and through prayer we seek to reach out with the good news of Jesus Christ and the peace, joy, love and eternal forgiveness that only Jesus offers.
For the security of our missionary families, national workers, and those we are reaching with the Gospel, the Board for World Missions has chosen NOT to post information about select mission fields. The public posting of such material could endanger the people or the work being done. If you would like to know more about our activity in a specific part of the world and do not find information on our website, please contact the world mission office with your questions.
