The Languages of WELS Home Missions Outreach
WELS Home Missions is working in various languages across the country. The primary languages that are being worked in are: English, Spanish, Hmong and Vietnamese.
Spanish –The Cristo Palabra de Vida program reaches out across North America in an effort to share the gospel message and to promote Hispanic/Latino outreach in existing congregations. Cristo Palabra de Vida promotes the use of resources for the training and development of workers providing the needed courses, training and materials.
Hmong –In keeping with Jesus' great commission (Matthew 28:19-20), the Hmong Ministry Center has been established by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod to facilitate mission work to the Hmong people in St. Paul, Minnesota, other communities in the United States, and in Southeast Asia.
Vietnamese –Ministry to the Vietnames in the Boise, Idaho area, the U.S., and Vietnam are taking place through the work of Peace through Jesus ministries. The current ministry includes: BIC courses (in both English and Vietnamese languages), Friday Night “Family Night” Bible Class (bi-lingual) and worship services (in Vietnamese and in English). Our ministry also includes: “Love in action” (ways we strive to help people in their day-to-day lives) to establish and maintain trust with individuals and the community (e.g. help with INS papers, translation help with doctors, etc.), English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and Citizenship classes.
