Cameroon

Mentoring pastors. Training certified assistants. Developing the Lutheran Church of Cameroon by developing programs. Training and equipping the Synod and congregations. Travelling to villages in Cameroon two weeks each month. This is the daily work of Missionary Dan Myers in Cameroon.

This year, an emergency vicar will assist with teaching and training the laymen while Pastor Myers trains the pastors and certified assistants.  Peggy Myers trains the ladies.  Later, he will be responsible for training the next group of pastors from the current certified assistants in the second seminary session to be held here.

Malawi

Malawi means 'flame' in the national language of the land, Chichewa. Certainly the Spirit's fire can be witnessed at work in the WELS’ largest foreign mission. Since our beginning in 1963, the Lutheran church has grown to over 30,000 members in 135 congregations served by 18 national pastors and aided by 7 missionaries. The good news of Jesus Christ is proclaimed in both rural and urban communities from the north to the south of the country. An extensive pastor training program works to provide more national pastors for the future. Work is progressing to develop the Lutheran Church of Central Africa - Malawi Synod into an independent sister body of the WELS. Indeed the Spirit's fire is burning brightly in Malawi, Africa.

Mozambique

In Mozambique, one of Africa’s most rapidly developing countries, the Lutheran Church of Central Africa is continuing to reach into rural areas of Mozambique with the Gospel, in districts adjacent to Malawi.

Nigeria

“Welcome to Nigeria!” This is the frequent greeting in this West African giant of 146 million people. While the life in Nigeria can be difficult, the welcoming hearts and smiles make every trip worthwhile. Christ the King Lutheran Church of Nigeria and All Saints Lutheran Church of Nigeria are our two sister synods in the southeast corner of the country. These are not “missions.” They are sister synods in fellowship with WELS. They are daughter churches of Synodical Conference mission work started in 1936. Our role is to advise, encourage, and to assist. A major task is to make teaching visits to assist Christ the King Lutheran Seminary. WELS has no missionaries in Nigeria. But we have 10,000 brothers and sisters there, served by twenty-five indigenous pastors. Pray for them, that they may continue to welcome everyone in Nigeria with the gospel of Jesus.

Zambia

Chikondi Chodabwitsa: Amazing Grace, Surprising Love.  God continues to show his Amazing Grace to Zambia as he has for the past 56 years in the Lutheran Mission Zambia and the Lutheran Church of Central Africa.  There are now 29 Zambian pastors, 4 WELS missionaries, a seminary, over 109 congregations with 12,611 baptized members and a health and development program; working and growing together to spread the Amazing Grace of God to more and more people.

Central Africa Medical Mission

The Medical Mission is a program in which WELS or ELS health care professionals can use their God-given abilities to spread His love in a different area of the world. This ministry of love is a tremendous benefit to the Lutheran Church of Central Africa and our fellow sisters and brothers in Jesus.
