WELS helps Christ the King Lutheran Church of Nigeria and All Saints Lutheran Church of Nigeria by standing beside them as confessional brothers and sisters in Christ. We offer counsel as they conduct their synod affairs. Pastor Doug Weiser is the Africa Administrative Committee's liaison with Nigeria.
We help them in their educational efforts by teaching some of the seminary classes. We also provide the curricular materials. Three pairs of WELS pastors visit Nigeria each seminary year, donating their teaching time at the seminary.
We give CKLCN financial help in an annual subsidy to their synod’s operation. We support the students at the seminary, and as gifts permit we help with church buildings, and a variety of mission projects. WELS does not provide on-going subsidy to All Saints.
WELS churches, individuals, and now the Humanitarian Aid Committee have been active in providing bore holes for congregations of both synods. These deep water wells are equipped with generator, electric pump, storage tanks and distribution house in order to provide healthy drinking and household water to all the people surrounding the host church. The water is given away freely or for a very nominal charge. The bore holes are maintained by the location congregation with the help of the village authorities. Sometimes thousands of people are getting the benefit of one bore hole, thus avoiding the diseases and pests that are spread by foul water. To date WELS has provided 15 bore holes for the people of Nigeria.
When seminary is not in session, the WELS sends a team of two pastors to Nigeria twice a year. Your WELS liaison and volunteer WELS pastors visit our sister synods, attend their meetings, conduct refresher courses, and visit individual congregations and their project sites.
For the security of our missionary families, national workers, and those we are reaching with the Gospel, the Board for World Missions has chosen NOT to post information about select mission fields. The public posting of such material could endanger the people or the work being done.
