File CollectionPolitically Correct or Just Correct?

What would happen in our society if you stood up and said all sex outside of marriage (one man and one woman) is a sin against the other person and a sin against God. Doesn’t that seem so out of touch with our world? What if you said that most of the world commits idolatry, hates Jesus and deserves to go to hell. Does such a statement even make you uncomfortable? It does me. We live in an age of “tolerance.” We live in a society that has conditioned us to not say that something is wrong or evil. We know the rules and if you don’t,  you soon learn them…especially on a college campus.

Maybe this is why people criticize the Old Testament and say it’s harsh. That’s because the Old Testament calls evil…evil. Actually the whole Bible speaks this way. And it makes it clear that we can’t be on the fence. We need to oppose evil, whether it is politically correct or not. The very real danger and temptation is that we become so politically correct that we mirror our society and at times are on the wrong side! One important reminder. When you and I call moral garbage by its true name, we dare not forget to hold ourselves to the same standard. Evil in our hearts is why we need a Savior, why Jesus at the cross is such good news. And that grace and forgiveness of God to morally degenerate people is ultimately the reason we speak the hard truth to a wicked world. They with us have a problem it’s called evil, that’s what it is. But we also have the answer that is offered freely to everyone without condition. It’s Jesus. He’s not politically correct by any measure but he is correct.

Let burning coals fall upon them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise. Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence.  Psalm 140:10-11

So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?  Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance? Romans 2:3-4
