Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” - Revelation 14:6-7

Does the title of this devotion intrigue you?  Or maybe it just causes you to think, “Huh?’  So you don’t spend countless hours trying to determine the numerology and secret message of this author, here’s the significance.  In 2009 the world has 195 countries whose 6,797,645,924 people speak approximately 6,500 different languages.  These people practice collectively about 4,300 different religions.

So what does this mean?  There are a lot of people in different parts of the world with a lot of different options for a faith system.  Yet amidst all these religious options, one stands out as unique among them all: “the eternal gospel to proclaim to all who live on earth.”  There is one message from one God, the Creator, to communicate there is only one way to heaven.  The heart of this gospel, or “good news” is the familiar words of John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him, should not perish, but have eternal life.”

This good news that says, “God has done the work for you to get to heaven” stands in stark contrast to the other 4,299 religions that perpetuate some form of the thought, “You do the work to get to heaven.”  For it was Jesus who lived the perfect life, died an innocent death and rose from the dead for one purpose…so you could spend eternity with him.  This is the heart of the “eternal gospel” message!

If this is your confidence, take time this Thanksgiving to thank God for this amazing gift of heaven through Jesus.  Take time this upcoming Christmas season to share this Gift with someone.  If you are wrestling with what to believe for your eternity, seek out a Christian friend, pastor, or information on www.whataboutjesus.com to begin to get answers to your very important questions so you too can have confidence to stand before God when “the hour of judgment comes.”

Prayer:
Lord God, I thank you that you thought enough of me to send Jesus to live, die and rise again for me.  Thank you for this eternal gospel, the eternal good news that when the hour of judgment comes, I have nothing to fear.  Amen.
