At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. - Matthew 22:30 As believers in Jesus, what will it be like after our bodies are raised from the dead on the Last Day? What kind of experience will it be? Jesus gives us a glimpse of what it will be like. He tells us that we will live like the heavenly angels. That means that we will be immortal; we will not be subject to dying and death. Jesus says that his believers will go to heaven and “they can no longer die, for they are like the angels” (Luke 20:36). God will not allow death to touch us there. And where death does not exist, sin and evil can never enter. God will give us a life in heaven that is perfectly holy and happy, and that wonderful bliss will continue without end. In heaven we will also be like the angels in the relationship that we will have with one another. Marriage and family ties which we have now are institutions which God gave for this world only. Jesus makes it clear that when we get to heaven, we will no longer have the same relationships that we have here on earth. No doubt we will know and recognize each other in heaven. That, indeed, will be part of the joy. But earthly family ties will no longer be important. What will be important, and a source of real joy is that we will be united into one perfect family – God's holy family. That's what we have to look forward to – and how eagerly we await the second coming of Jesus to take us from this sinful world to the perfect home of his heavenly Father.
