Let us encourage one another . . . Hebrews 10:25 May 2009

Dear fellow advocates for learning,

One of the things we preachers have plenty of is education. A quick look at our educational track records reveals people who have spent a minimum of 21 to 22 years in a classroom. Our education has given us a great appreciation for what James is talking about when he says “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” (James 3:13)

We are entering that time of the year when academics, politicians, philanthropists, and preachers are giving many speeches on wisdom to the graduates of several different levels of education. Sad to say a lot of those speeches are themselves void of true wisdom, focusing on the graduates instead of on the one who gave them their wisdom.

My encouragement to all of you is to celebrate the true source of wisdom this month. Celebrate the blessing of reason the Lord has given to our members. Celebrate that our graduates have come through this stage of life with their faith intact. Use this time to encourage our graduates to stay in touch with the only source for true wisdom.
